Change Your Mindset

CHANGE YOUR RESULTS

I get it. You’re busy, and reading - especially non-fiction books - is probably fairly low on your priority list.

Down below “pick up the kids, take this one to soccer at 3:30, drop that one to swimming at 3:45, the other one’s staying over with a mate tonight and did they pack their inhalers?.. I should follow up and check. And was swimming finishing at 4:30 or 5 today… wait - is this the off week??…”

Then there’s dinner (which you pick up while the kids are at soccer and swimming), washing uniforms, cleaning the cleats so mud doesn’t get trampled into the carpet, and making sure that wet togs don’t get left somewhere at the bottom of the bag and kicked under the bed to be forgotten about for the next week till swimming practice next week only to be discovered half moldy and wet carpet from where they’ve been sitting…. oh, and dropping off that inhaler that the oldest ALWAYS forgets…

*** Ok, stop here for a second and take a deep breath (or 5)***

But I ALSO get - especially after the chaos of 2020 (and lets be honest, it’s still going) - there are a lot of us STILL struggling to get past the jarring feeling and like everything stopped, but didn’t quite start again properly.

And THAT’S WHY spring cleaning our brain and CHOOSING our next path forward is so important. 15 minutes set aside every day for your own mental sanity and health? That needs to become non-negotiable.

I jump-started my healing with 2 books that I did every morning religiously. I got up half an hour earlier to make sure I fit it in.

Change your mindset - change your results.

So, when you’re ready to make YOUR mental health a priority (because lets be honest, when your brain is working AGAINST you, it’s really hard to pick up that camera or dive into that editing, or even just tidy your desk so it doesn’t look like a bomb hit it…) here’s some of my recent most favouritest books that are helping me feel on the ball, focused, clear and - most of all - “me” again.

Happy Reading,

xx Tracy

THE BRAIN COOLERS (like fans for your CPU)

These two books helped me turn my mindset around. The author provides you with a daily thought from some of the stoics, and then asks you to journal about your thoughts on it. What do you have control over? What values are you not currently embodying that you wish you were? You’ll find solace, a quieter brain and a real re-confidence in who YOU are as a person in this world.

THE FIRE STARTERS (like, for the fire under your butt to get you going…)

I asked Google Gemini to describe Danielle La Porte in one sentence for people who aren’t familiar with her writing, and this is what I got back: “Stuck in a self-doubt rut? Danielle LaPorte is the joy machine with a roadmap to get you unstuck and living your best life.” There’s not one part of this sentence that’s incorrect. She’s raw and fun, while being spiritual and yet practical, and a little bit sweary. She’ll call you out on your own B.S, in the most loving way possible. But be prepared to go DEEP with this one - not for the person that isn’t ready to take the BIG leap.

YOUR NEW BFF THAT HAPPENS TO BE THE MOST PRACTICAL (but fun) VIRGO MINDSET MENTOR

She also happens to be my favourite Auzzie (which, coming from a Kiwi is HIGH praise!). Ignoring the title, Denise is actually totally down to earth and you read the book like she’s in your lounge chatting with you. No messy jargon, just practical thoughts on a practical matter, that will alter your brain chemistry to be a better you. She’s also an easy read - so if you’re looking for something a lot lighter than Danielle (above) start with Denise. She’s the awesome-est. ;)

THE PRACTICAL BLOKES THAT’LL SORT OUT YOUR PRIORITIES

I’ve fully read Mark’s book, and I’m half way through James’s. The Subtle Art is a great light read and — like Denise - sounds like he’s just a mate sitting in your living room sharing his story. When you’re feeling like there’s a million things on your mind - this really gives you a good solid friend-to-friend-loving-intervention talking to, with an awful lot of swearing - all for a good cause!

James - again with these practical men-types - tells it like it is, and gives you some great psychology lessons along the way to make sense of your brain. When you know better, you can do better.

WHEN YOUR SOUL NEEDS A BREAK AND TO FEEL RECONNECTED TO THE GREAT BEYOND

If you haven’t come across Gabby before, you’re missing out. And although most of her books are aimed at manifesting what you want in life - it’s really just ways to reconnect with who you actually are, and to not feel alone in this world. We all know there’s more to life than just buying more stuff - and Gabby is great at encouraging your own internal SPS (Spiritual Guidance System - kind of like a GPS, but for your soul) to find connection and allow you to just breathe out all the junk you’ve been holding onto for too long.
